Earth Speaks

Coming up in May, ‘Earth Speaks’ a solo exhibition by Rachel Rector presented in collaboration with AFPA Gallery (Orlando, FL). The opening reception will be held Saturday, May 16 from 6-10pm. The Eclectika is located at 711 N. Britain Rd. Irving, Texas, 75061.

ABOUT THE SHOW

From AFPA Gallery:

In "Earth Speaks," Rachel Rector embraces a slow, elemental approach to image-making, using cameraless photography and historical processes to create works in direct collaboration with nature. Sunlight, water, and organic materials leave their trace, resulting in images that feel both intimate and ephemeral.

This exhibition centers on collaboration rather than control. Rector relinquishes authorship to the elements, allowing nature to imprint and shape each surface—creating works that are at once fragile and enduring, evoking memory rather than documentation.

By blending photography with poetry, collage, and textile elements, Rector expands the medium into a tactile, sensory experience, inviting viewers to pause and reconsider their connection to the natural world.

We are especially grateful to Lauren Allen and The Eclectika Gallery for this meaningful collaboration.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Rachel Rector is a fine art film photographer whose work utilizes experimental film, cameraless photography, and historical printmaking techniques to evoke the ethereal, daydream quality of a nostalgic moment in nature. She often adds poetry, collage, and textile elements to her hand-printed photographs to convey the sentiment of the natural space. Her images have been published in Polaroid, Huffington Post, Lomography, Love Watts, Fault Magazine, Something Curated, Structured Mag and displayed in galleries throughout the U.S. Rachel has developed educational workshops believing that teaching 18th century processes like cyanotypes and anthotypes captivate students' senses and encourages them to become more engaged with their environment. She is currently enjoying living in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Earth Speaks is a photographic installation rooted in the language of nature, and the quiet, tactile process of cameraless image-making. This process is slow and intentional. Created through direct collaboration with nature. Using sunlight, water, chemistry, and organic materials, this exhibition captures the deep stillness of our Earth, made visible through a slow, elemental process. Each of these historical processes were developed outdoors using the power of light rays from the sun and a darkroom.

Noah Broomfield: Ceremony for Creative Care

Ceremony for Creative Care is an active practice through which Noah is currently reconfiguring his relationship to the objects, things, and ecology that surround him. This MFA thesis exhibition is a showcase of the tools that Noah uses to achieve this relational shift. Noah is pleased to invite the public to his oral thesis defense and reception to participate in this ceremony for creative care.

Noah Broomfield was born and raised in Berea, Kentucky where he received a bachelor’s degree in studio art from Berea College. After working as a production potter for five years, he arrived in Denton to pursue an MFA at UNT focusing on using his studio practice as a mechanism for care. Noah’s thesis work is heavily informed by a summer of travel and study in China, and exposure to the ‘Gongfu’ tea ceremony. By merging his southern Appalachian upbringing with historical tea practices, Noah offers tea as a form of care for the people, objects, things, and ecology that surround him.

Up Near The Roof All Our Thoughts Are Clear

Up Near The Roof, All Our Thoughts Are Clear, Solo Exhibition by Tamara Rafkin comes to The Eclectika Gallery this March 30th – April 4th, as one of the three UNT MFA shows the Eclectika is hosting this spring.

Rafkin’s work explores the emotional and physical ways we relate to spaces and our sense of belonging, asking how place, time, and memory shape the structure of the self within the spaces we inhabit.

Using architectural forms as a vehicle for the idea of self and relationship to place, this exhibition reflects on how memory can both anchor and erode a sense of being. While allowing the viewer to occupy a liminal space between the realities of knowing, shifting boundaries of identity, the places we call our own, and a psychological landscape created over time.

This exhibition is Rafkin’s MFA Thesis exhibition as part of her final studies at the University of North Texas. Rafkin invites the public to join her at The Eclectika to experience this sculptural installation of her ceramic, cement, and steel works that culminate her time within the MFA program in Denton.

Up Near The Roof All Our Thoughts Are Clear is on view March 30th to April 4th, 2026 at The Eclectika Community Gallery & Creative Space. 711 N. Britain Rd. Irving Texas 75061

Gallery Hours: Friday and Saturday, 11 am – 4 pm, and by appointment.

Public Thesis Defense Thursday, April 2nd at 5 pm, with a gallery reception with the artist following from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm.

Inversion

Coming up in March, ‘Inversion’, a group show by Noah Broomfield, Courtney Broussard, and Tamara Rafkin featuring work created during their shared residency at the Taoxichuan Art Center in Jingdezhen, China. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, March 14 from 6-10pm and will coincide with the opening of ‘Matter, Made’. The Eclectika is located at 711 N. Britain Rd. Irving, TX, 75061.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Inversion presents work developed during a shared residency at the Taoxichuan Art Center in Jingdezhen, China, the birthplace of porcelain. The exhibition reflects moments of looking again, reversing perspective, and allowing material and place to quietly reframe understanding.

Jingdezhen’s long history of porcelain production is inseparable from labor, industry, and ecological cost. Working alongside local ceramic artists and laborers, we experienced making as a shared language shaped through repetition, observation, and care.

We were drawn to the name Inversion not only for its meaning of reversal, but for the ceramic process itself. As clay becomes ceramic, it passes through quartz inversion, a permanent material shift. In the same way, this time in Jingdezhen changed how we see value, labor, and support systems, sometimes in ways that cannot be undone.

This exhibition is presented with gratitude to Taoxichuan Art Center and Eliza Au for their generosity, guidance, and support.

Happy Birthday

Coming up in January, ‘Happy Birthday’ presented by the Steady Hands Artist Cooperative and curated by Syd Campbell! This exhibition will feature works by Adrien Klunke, Ali Estelle, Anelise Hurst, Bryce Gray, Elijah Link Robbins, Ella Salerno, Gannon Shaffer, Janette Davalos, Jenna Wesson, Kat Hardi, Lauren Fleniken, Sera Rose, Steven Santamaria, and Syd Campbell. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, January 24 from 6-10pm. The Eclectika is located at 711 N. Britain Rd, Irving, TX 75061.

About the show:

Shel Silverstein's brief, five-line poem "Happy Birthday" creates a story of someone who decides to celebrate themselves without waiting for anyone's permission. Despite the unfortunate outcome of their birthday party, they choose to enjoy the day with their own company. This is the core of our exhibition by the same title; "Happy Birthday" is about resilience and self-confidence. For this show, the members of Steady Hands Artist Cooperative have banded together to seek works from emerging artists in the DFW area that embody a resilient attitude and a strong sense of self in the face of obstacles, such as loneliness, gender identity, social expectations, cultural tensions, misogyny and violence against women, trauma, and mental illness, to name a few of these artworks' very nuanced messages. Much of the work our curators have selected uses birthday and party iconography, such as cake, candles, piñatas, and confetti. Our goal is to create an immersive exhibition that makes the visitor feel as though they are attending a birthday party where something has gone amiss, and their exploration of the artwork can give them insight to the complicated issues at this celebration. We hope this exhibition can provide a sense of being seen to anyone who has felt like this birthday boy, as well as an energizing invitation to appreciate and celebrate yourself.

Beyond Maiden Mother Crone

Coming up in January, ‘Beyond Maiden Mother Crone’! This exhibition will feature works by Jojo Chenet, Lauren Hill, Lera Watts, Lucy McGrath, Rae Flores, Ray Thomas, and Sydney Lewandowski. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, January 24 from 6-10pm. The Eclectika is located at 711 N. Britain Rd, Irving, TX 75061.

About the show:

Beyond Maiden Mother Crone is a multi-artist collaboration that explores the myths regarding femininity, passed down from mother to mother, and how our experiences exist within them. We interpret how these myths can relate or contradict us through our artistic practices. We utilize classical retellings such as Greek or Christian mythology, but we also storytell through our personal narratives. Beyond Maiden Mother Crone shows that there’s more to femininity than a three faced archetype, our experiences cannot fit into a box. But most importantly, it is a celebration of our different life experiences.

‘Request and Recoil’ Opening Reception

Request and Recoil examines the complication of intimacy through a queer lens. This collection of work responds to the shame engrained in the queer experience created by the labeling of one's identity as unnatural or perverse. The work expresses queer sexuality and desire as being innate and complex, stemming from a yearning for connection that everyone shares. The show is examining a constant need to prove one's own intention as pure. Through works of mainly painting, photography, and small scale sculpture, Request and Recoil aims to illustrate the constant tug of war between desire and shame.

‘Intrepid, Still’ Opening Reception

Opening November 15 at The Eclectika in the mainstage gallery, 'Intrepid, Still’ curated by Kate Arrows Enoire! Featuring work Magaly Cantu, Kate Arrows Enoire, Narong Tintamusik, Jeremy Bunda, Robynn Armevida, Noah Broomfield, Carla Hughes, Robyn Rozelle, and Kael Alford.

ABOUT THE SHOW:

Intrepid, Still explores the congruities woven through the work of each artist, bound by narratives of survival and resilience notwithstanding historical, contemporary, and impending traumas against individuals and cultures, including explorations of survival of inherited social constructs, systemic racism, discrimination, an imminent extinction event, and intergenerational abuse, via evaluations of personal and collective histories, cultural hybridities, environmental speculations, and material transformations.

Each artist navigates the pursuit of survival as the hard-fought afterbirth of trauma: the launch after an immured ending; and challenges the systems that braid together such doomed paths of exploitation and oppression. Their works illuminate architectures of persistence, the shared impulse to mend and begin again, gestures born in the aftermath of rupture. Now more than ever, it is important to unveil and finally realize the common lineages of such wounds.

Survival is an act of creation, a reordering of matter, myth, and memory resisting inherited scripts of subjugation. In witnessing these convergences, the exhibition invites reflection on the invisible genealogies that intersect strategies of survival.

Opening November 1 at The Eclectika, ‘Labyrinths’ curated by Opal! Featuring work by Adrian Aileen, Brian K. Jones, Brian K. Scott, Will DeShazo, Opal, Brandi Lee Porter, John Stillings, and Christopher Tranquino.

ABOUT THE SHOW:

Labyrinths is an experimental show featuring a select group of artists who were given the prompt word “labyrinths” to create a piece of artwork inspired by their personal interpretation.

In the occult and psychological realms, labyrinths are known to represent one’s inner journey towards the subconscious. Opal selected the artists for their aesthetic fitting the surrealist motif. Surrealism is a dreamlike creative path that explores symbolism and archetypes, connecting the artist with their psyche. Revealing aspects of one’s unconscious can lead to healing and transformation of trauma, allowing for transcendence. Through curating this show, I invite everyone to enjoy the freedom of unbound expression.

An opening reception will be held Saturday, November 1 from 6-10pm in conjunction with the opening of ‘A Gallery Most Grim’ with juror Allester Vinteers. The Eclectika is located at 711 N. Britain Rd Irving TX 75061.
